Dash Cam Terms and Conditions
You understand and acknowledge that Uber Technologies Inc. ("Uber") and The Hertz Corporation ("Hertz") have installed a DriveScape dash cam provided by Cambridge Mobile Telematics, Inc. ("CMT"), in the vehicle you are renting from Hertz through the Uber Car Rental Program. The following terms and conditions apply and are incorporated into your Rental Agreement with Hertz and the terms between you and Uber. Please read them carefully.
Information about the DriveScape Dashcam
-
What is the DriveScape dashcam?
The DriveScape dashcam is a connected dashcam system designed to help promote safe rides for both riders and drivers, increase transparency around crashes and in-vehicle incidents, expedite claim reconciliation, and send you alerts about your driving. The dashcam is mounted to the windshield of the car that you are renting, near the rearview mirror and is integrated with the Uber mobile application.
-
What does the dashcam record?
The DriveScape dashcam captures video and audio inside and outside the vehicle and also tracks certain driving events through its analysis of telematics information. For example, it is designed to automatically detect crashes and other driving events such as hard braking. This helps provide an accurate record of events if needed.
-
When does the dashcam record?
DriveScape dashcam automatically turns on when you start your vehicle, and automatically turns off when you turn off your vehicle. However, the internal audio and video will automatically stop recording when you are offline from the Uber Driver app, and automatically turn back on when your Uber Drive app is active. The exterior camera will continue to record at all times.
-
What are the safe driving alerts?
The DriveScape dashcam's technology sends you in-vehicle audio alerts when it detects certain driving events, such as hard braking.
-
Can I turn off the safe driving alerts?
You are not able to turn off the alerts. The DriveScape dashcam is designed to encourage you to stay focused on the road and to help prevent collisions before they occur.
-
Can I turn off or remove the DriveScape dashcam or move it to a different vehicle?
No. The DriveScape dashcam cannot be turned off, removed or transferred to another vehicle. You will need to return the vehicle to Hertz if you no longer wish to rent a vehicle with a DriveScape dashcam. Please note that Hertz may only have vehicles that include DriveScape dashcams available for rental through the Uber Car Rental Program at the location where you pick-up the vehicle.
-
Who is responsible for the dashcam?
There is no cost to install the dashcam or use the dashcam. However, you assume all responsibility for loss of or damage to the dashcam, up to $240.
-
Who should I contact if I'm having any technical issues?
If the DriveScape dashcam isn't working, or for assistance on troubleshooting please contact Hertz support at HertzTNC3@hertz.com .
-
Can I access video from my Uber trips?
Certain video recordings recorded by the DriveScape dashcam can be made available to you if you contact Uber support agents.
To do so, simply navigate to Trip Issues and Adjustments under the Help section of your Uber Driver app, and select "I was in an accident" or "Issue with a rider." After you provide a description of the incident, you will be given the option to request video review. If you check this box, Uber will automatically request the footage from CMT, and will provide that footage to you, if available. Please note that CMT retains recordings as described in the DriveScape Privacy Policy.
Please note that the dashcam holds approximately 35 hours of driving time recordings; older recordings will be automatically deleted.
-
Can I access video from times when I am not driving with Uber?
Incident specific recordings recorded by the DriveScape dashcam can be made available to you through Hertz support (please email HertzTNC3@hertz.com ). Unfortunately, it will not be possible to provide you with certain recordings when not driving with Uber.
Please note that the dashcam holds approximately 35 hours of driving time recordings; older recordings will be automatically deleted.
-
Who is getting my data and what data are they receiving?
The DriveScape dashcam may record and collect personal information about you, your passengers, and any other drivers of your vehicle, including audio and video from drivers and passengers. The dashcam also collects telematics data and driving behavior (e.g., hard braking events) and metadata (e.g., time and location data for detected crashes). For additional details related to how and when information may be collected and used, please visit the Drive Scape Privacy Policy.
Uber will only access telematics and audio/video footage at your request, or for investigating any detected or reported incidents while you are driving with the Uber App. Hertz will only access telematics and audio/video footage at your request, or for investigating any detected or reported incidents.
